Wholesome content and a great Q & A
Jaar geledenMedi Cogglet
But who set the SYSTEM up and for what reason? Jordan is slick, got caught out there with that Oldboy question. He is funny and talented, BUT he is a biracial man that presents as Black, raised by a white family, schooled at white institutions, and married to a white woman. Not sure how steeped in the Black experience he actually is other than being discriminated against and othered because of his Blackness. What does he know of how Black women feel or how Black families interact, etc.? Found his Madtv/Key&Peele work stereotypical and insulting portrayals - but whites think its brilliant because it fits their view of what Blacks are like.
Jaar geledenB M Krieger
He is steeped in the black experience because no matter what his parentage or how he was raised, the color of his skin puts him there.

1) 13% of the population wants to run point, but feels hampered by feelings of otherness and alienation. They do not always feel understood. It is as if its every individuals job to understand perfectly the black psyche. Honestly, this is the feeling of most minority groups in all of history, and still is both in US and around the world today. It is a byproduct. The strain it takes to operate in white spaces is part delusion, part ignorance of regular, everyday whites, and only partly real. Whites can not help their idiots anymore than anyone else, and pretending that ignorant micro-aggressions are the bane of your existence is fucking premeditated hostility...it is like wishing you lived perfectly in blacktopia, where everyone perfectly “gets it” and you never have to deal with others at all. It is easier to ignore the greater truth of inner conflict, and to push it onto other means. We all do that. We do not want to see that some of what we feel is actually what we regurgitate to ourselves. We do not always tell ourselves the whole truth.

I once read that in order to have a successful conversation, attempt to repeat what the person says in a manner that they’re able to stop and say “I never thought to say it like that but yeah, that’s what I meant.” It not only shows that you’re listening but it shows a comprehensive internalization of what the other person says. Pay attention to how he repeats every question in his own words before he answers.

Jordan Peele is a racist because he said he will never have a white protagonist. If a white person said this it would be all over CNN. Then he calls Trump a racist ? As time goes by we can see Trump is doing amazing things for blacks and their approval of him has doubled since hes been in office. Trump is doing MUCH more for the black community than Peele ever will. I wish that black producers and directors were more creative but they just rely on the race card at every turn.

A suspicious black cat i agree with you about perception. when peele looks in the mirror he probably even perceives himself that way because hes in america where majority is white. however, if you put him next to a truly black man from mozambique then he would realize how white he actually is. while i dont agree with 100% on rotten tomatoes, i think 'get out' was a really great movie. if he retracts that one statement i will even be happy to watch it again. i actually liked it so much that it brought me to the interview i have a problem with and thats the moment i saw him and his art in a different light. he had an almost devious look when he was saying it.. but maybe thats my perception and it wasnt his intention to be offensive. even if its not intentional, as a white person i feel im held to a higher standard with my speech than that and i would be persecuted for saying something like that. i dont want the right to say that kind of thing i just think we should all be held to the same standard.
2 jaar geledentelesphoros
A suspicious black cat no i wasnt trying to say you would portray anyone as villainous im saying thats what jordan peele does with his movies. in 'get out' the white people were villains and obviously in the new movie they are also villains. i dont mind tendencies , all peele needs to do is change it from a policy to a tendency to avoid me calling him racist. i agree with what youre saying about genre but my point is that peeles chosen genre is only about racial material and portraying white people as the villain. again, all he needs to do is something thats not all about race. i think its a sign of weakness as a writer if you cant do any other material besides racially charged stuff and i would argue there are better ways to tackle race than to pit one against the other. but, if writing about race is the only genre he wants to do.. thats perfectly fine.. even if he wants to portray white people as villains thats fine.. but it fits the definition of racism when you verbally announce in an interview after 'get out' that you will never have certain people based solely on skin color. how are you racist for wanting to write characters who resemble you.. you're not. its the moment you make a blanket statement to exclude people based on the color of their skin. if you support that policy of his you are supporting racism. does supporting racism make you a racist ? so you have a problem with saying there are behavioral racial differences ? that doesnt aline with your main position or jordan peeles because what peele is saying is that he cant write for a white person because he could never understand how they think. youre also saying the same thing which is an admission of racial difference.. so which one is your actual position, do we have racial differences or not ? yes, i am white and if i were to write a black protagonist it would first depend on the story i wanted to tell and the genre. i would undoubtedly infuse him with emotion and parts of myself, even though i am white and hes black we are both human so i would start first with things that are broadly 'human'. what the character did, like eating would be dependent on what kind of person he is, not necessarily specific to race because not all black people eat 'soul food' and collared greens. or watermelon and fried chicken. (but as a white man i will be called a racist if i say they eat fried chicken and thats part of the double standard im trying to address) so because of where i live i havent had the opportunity to know many black people at all but we are starting to get a few in my town and im accurate when i say 'a few' so this would require me to research. if i was serious about writing a black role i would do my research first hand, try to live with black people, etc. i would see with my own eyes and offer up my observations in the form of the character as i saw them, not how a black person told me, or from reading a black author. i would see for myself the reality and try to convey that to my readers. i dont think you or peele have the same problem i do in this regard because im assuming you live in the US and we are 70% white. i would think you and peele have had a lifetime to observe white people. for instance peeles white wife probably has a family that jordan knows intimately. one would think hes stayed up all night drinking with her dad.. or gone on trips where he really gets to know the soul of a white person. hes also half white so that gives him even more insight into being white. so if his half-black side disqualifies him from 'writing white' then why doesnt his half-white side disqualify him from 'writing black' ? to me that argument is a cop-out for a bad policy and an obvious double-standard. all he needs to do in my opinion is take back that one statement that he would never have a white protagonist and i would go back to being one of his biggest fans.

The difference between black directors and white directors, is that black directors focus on race, while white directors focus on a wide variety of concepts. Black people are just generally more racist than white people these days, and movies like this are achieving the opposite of what Jordan wants.

Interesting: 29:40 - Korean cinema's influence on Jordan - "HAN" - Modern Chinese cognate 恨 means more simply hatred, animosity, or resentment; the classical definition of 恨 is often translated as 'regret' or 'unfulfilled vengeance', which more closely correlates with the Korean sentiment of 'Han'.

This film did not deserve best original screenplay! This is just a reworking of the classic horror film "The Stepford Wives" (1975). In the movie the men in the community turn all the women into submissive slaves. Peele just flip it upside down and made it about whites controlling blacks. Basically its the same story! Even down the the idea that the husband(in peels version, the girlfriend) was in on it from the beginning. There was nothing original about this!

This man is a genius, Get Out was the most original and intelligent film I’ve seen on the big screen. I wasn’t familiar with his work so started watching a few of Keele and Peele on YouTube. The ingenuity of this man was already there for every to see and hear. Mr Peele, you are going to knock Me Spielberg off his rusty throne. Respect
3 jaar geledenNicholas R.
I like Jordan and enjoyed "Get Out" but he is, at the end of the day, half black and half white but seems to only lean and promote his "blackness". Sure he physically looks like a black man but in the end, the industry is all about dollars. He wrote a good screenplay and made a good movie and was already in and somewhat established in the industry. So i wish he would more speak on himself as a filmmaker and creator, rather than a "black director". You're talented and just do your thing.

3 jaar geledenGera Anderson
I'm not sure he initially identified himself that way but the media probably emphasized it and he didn't fight it but choose to embrace. Believe me, if you win any acclaim the fact that you are Hispanic is probably going to be highlighted, especially if you're a first. I agree that he is going to have to do something spectacular to follow GET OUT. He probably just wants to follow his own ideas and not have a goal to become a big Hollywood director. Have you seen any of his Key and Peele skits?
3 jaar geledenNicholas R.
Gera Anderson nothing wrong with being a black anything. I myself am a filmmaker. i am also hispsnic. I don't however, choose to identify as a "Hispanic Filmmaker". You don't say "Black Judge" or "Black Pilot". I'm simply saying to embrace every aspect of yourself but why minoritize yourself. He's talented, seems intelligent and has a voice. Everything i see him in he's all pro black everything but makes and pokes fun at white stereotypes as if he himself is not half white. Still like him and am interested in his Sophomore film. Going to be very hard to follow GET OUT
