I love living here in NZ and feel so blessed to be here when this horrific global pandemic has hit, but it is important to remember that living here has its struggles. Financially, it is so much harder to survive here because the cost of living is so high. I guess Stephen Colbert wouldn't really have to worry about that so much...

lol bc here in nz we actually know that contact in a pandemic is bad. but if we get rid of covid then contact is fine again. tbh i often forget that lots of other countries are still in lockdowns again or have to wear masks all the time. we were in lockdown, masks for supermarket runs were highly recommended and then there was like a few weeks of masks compulsory on public transport and at work (maccas) and now. i see a leftover mask in my bag and I'm like woah remember all those months ago lolol

I apologize, I have to disagree with Stephen on New Zealand's success during this pandemic. Like he said with it being an island with no bordering countries that makes it a lot easier to contain especially with a population size of 5 million—a population smaller than the city of New York. New Zealand also waited until March to take any quarantine measures which is the same month taken by New Mexico (and a few other US states, and nations)—the state where I reside in the US. Beit I'm extremely happy for New Zealand and their success during this pandemic but: a) Why praise New Zealand and simultaneously give America a back-handed slap in the face; especially when practically no nation on Earth took proper preemptive measures despite having the information, and b) New Zealand's success is mainly attributed to their suitable conditions for a global pandemic. To add, the US not only has a population of 330 million, but it is also bordered by Canada (pop: 38 million) and Mexico (pop: 128 million)—it's beyond gross to compare. I post this not to be correct, but because it's comments like this one that Stephen made (and many make and keep making) that keep us, as human beings, polarized.

Bruce Edwards

@Bill Bailey Well... I'm not saying it's a strong recommendation but it is kinda interesting and different. Not sure i watched all the way through initially. I did learn it's probably a place I Wont be migrating to. Sounds like NM is OK and there's something to be said for being with what you know and grew up with. Hopefully you have friends and family. Hawaii is beautiful but almost not reality. It's also pretty small. I'd like to find a place with enough going on but not too congested. I met my VA friend when he lived out here. We partnered up doing IT consulting then he moved back to his home state. VA people seem very nice. I've been helping his clients out there for a little over a year. I do so much work remotely now I could be in New Zealand and no one would know the difference.

Maand geleden
Bill Bailey
Bill Bailey

@Bruce Edwards oh and I'll definitely be sure to check out that documentary!

Maand geleden
Bill Bailey
Bill Bailey

@Bruce Edwards Yeah I'd say baron is a pretty accurate description of the geography over here. The main aspects that I like about NM is the low population, and there's a decent amount of space—I live in a rural area. Huh I did not know that about Virginians actually! That's pretty coincidental you have a friend trying to encourage you to move out there. But I think you hit the nail on the head with moving to a location with a very low population. I think that's the crucial variable. Honestly I think NZ might be the way to go like I said I'd move there if I could. I think it's definitely worth the wait. I think I'd also move to Maui if I had the opportunity. Beit it's a very democratic location and the taxes are insane but I love the climate, geography, and the population is also fairly low over there.

Maand geleden
Bruce Edwards
Bruce Edwards

@Bill Bailey Well, I can say I'm not overly familiar with NM. Of course think of Breaking Bad and and a couple of race tracks - Ruidoso Downs and Zia Park. I was there on a layover years ago. I wandered out of the airport and remember the earth red and the surroundings baron. I saw West Virginia - not sure about that - if you have amazon prime check out a documentary called The Whites. I have a friend ex-business partner that I still work with in Virginia. He's trying to get me to move out there. People in VA say 'Im from Virginia, NOT West Virginia' - it seems like a unique place. There's certainly something to be said for finding a place before it's over-populated.

Maand geleden
Bill Bailey
Bill Bailey

@Bruce Edwards That's very cool! Yeah I've found I was able to get a little bit of a deeper understanding of those around me through mbti. Wow, you have the same type as my father that's in interesting! But yeah you're very correct where there are people the ego will be found in an abundance...Though it does say West Virginia has the highest concentration of ISTP-T's which isn't too surprising. West Virginia has the highest concentration of introverts in the US and was the last state to get COVID. Maybe there is something to West Virginia haha Never have been myself. Wow from east to the west coast that's cool! I actually live in New Mexico I was both born and raised here. It's a very blue state, I'm not sure if I'd reccomend living here though it's not horrible. The climate doesn't have horrible extremes in the summer and winter and it's fairly low in population.

Hey Americans! Before you think of moving to NZ, consider "EVERY YEAR GNS Science locates over 15,000 EARTHQUAKES in New Zealand. About 100 – 150 of these quakes are large enough to be felt, - the others we only know about because they are recorded by seismographs." I lived in Christchurch and left just two months before the 1st Major earthquake hit in 2010, which completely demolished my former workplace and my paintings in storage, and left many of my friends, former coworkers and my therapist without their homes, forcing them to sleep in a tent in Hagley Park and eventually relocate. My friend lost her yoga studio she had just poured her life savings into creating.. she took her daughter and moved overseas. My cats ran away (and luckily returned to their new owner as they are intelligent and sensed the quake coming.) The second major earthquake hit in 2011 - killing 185 PEOPLE - and did even more destruction causing major damage to the central cathedral in CBD and other buildings. NZ has ALOT of seismic activity. Just be aware! 💖⠀⠀⠀

I live in NZ, we still are getting covid cases, but these are all at the border. Only Nzers are allowed to return (some exceptions) and are admitted to a managed isolation facility for 1 weeks and have 3 negative covid tests before they can be released. The rest of us are pretty much living life as normal, large sporting events, concerts, no restrictions. 😁. doesn't mean it will last, there is always the risk of the virus getting out of the facilities.... But I'm very grateful to be living where I am, and the thanks goes to our PM for following the advice of the health experts.
